If you run highly concurrent workload on PostgreSQL, you must have run into some or the other performance issues. Do you know PostgreSQL provides information on where are your queries spending their time via wait events in pg_stat_activity? You can poll pg_stat_activity view and identify what’s blocking a particular query. In this talk we will cover how you can use this information to identify top contributors to slowness in your workload. We will also talk about different categories of wait event and most common wait events that customers typically run into. We will talk about scenarios when these wait events block queries, how it affects your workload and how to mitigate them.
